Company History
Minnesota brothers Cyril and Louis Keller founded a business called the Keller Welding & Repair Business in 1947. The brothers worked on repairing farm equipment, then were called upon by a local farmer to create a belt-driven transmission tractor with a loader attachment. The Melroe Manufacturing Company of Gwinner, North Dakota, took note of this creation and the Kellers exhibited it at this company’s booth in the 1958 Minnesota State Fair.
Les Melroe, the son of the founder, agreed to pay the Kellers a royalty for each loader manufactured to their specifications, resulting in the creation of the world’s first skid-steer loader, and it was christened the Bobcat, which became the name of the company in the 1960s.
