Preparing Your Tractor For Spring
Now that spring is on the horizon, farmers and ranchers everywhere are getting ready for cultivating and planting crops, which means hauling their tractors out of storage. But you can’t simply expect your tractor to be ready to go once you throw off the cover. Here’s what you need to do to ensure that your tractor is ready for spring usage.
1. Top Off or Change Fluids
The various fluids in your tractor’s engine help it to function properly. You will likely need to replenish your fuel tank with fresh gasoline and you’ll also want to change your oil. Top off the coolant in the radiator. Watch for pooling fluids underneath your tractor, as this can indicate a leak in one of your systems.
2. Check Tires
Look over your tractor’s tires to make sure they aren’t worn-down or in need of air. Each tire should have sufficient treads to provide you with the traction you need on rough terrain. Your tires should also not have any objects embedded in them.
3. Test Hydraulics
Finally, you’ll want to make sure that your tractor is capable of using its hydraulic system and the various attachments and implements necessary to complete all the tasks you need to do. Carefully extend the hydraulics and see whether they need to be oiled and inspect the hoses for any leaks or cracks that might require repairs or replacements.
