Construction Equipment Winterization
Now that cold, snowy weather is on the horizon, you’re likely looking to shut down and store your construction equipment over the winter. However, it’s important to take some steps to ensure that you’re winterizing your equipment properly. Poorly-stored equipment is liable to malfunction or require significant repairs in the spring. Here’s how to winterize your construction equipment correctly.
Check Your Owner’s Manual
First things first: it’s important that you consult the owner’s manual for each piece of construction equipment you need to winterize to see what the manufacturer recommends doing. You’ll be able to figure out what types of products to use and how often to repair or replace certain parts on your construction equipment.
Clean Your Equipment
After heavy usage, your construction equipment probably needs to be thoroughly cleaned before you can store it or use it through the winter. Hose down your equipment, including all implements and attachments, and use a scrub brush on difficult areas.
Change Fluids
The oil and gasoline in your piece of construction equipment likely also need to be changed out. Clean gasoline with a fuel stabilizer is not liable to corrode the fuel tank or separate out during storage. You should also check on the coolant and hydraulic fluid in your equipment and top these off.
