What’s in a Name?

You might be curious to know what “Doosan” means in Korean. “Doo” and “San” come from the Korean words meaning “a measurement of grain” and “mountain,” so when they’re combined, the term translates to, “small grains of sand that combine to make a mountain.” This represents the employees’ combined efforts to make a truly great company over the past 125 years.

Product Expansion 

Over the years, Doosan® has expanded their product lineup a great deal. Since they first began to carry construction equipment in 1977, Doosan has been a leader in the construction market. Here are just a few of their many milestones along the way:

  • 1978: First Doosan excavator produced.
  • 1985: “SOLAR” excavator series launched.
  • 1987: 10,000 units exceeded in the excavator category.
  • 1992: Wheel loader manufacturing begins.
  • 1994: ISO9001 certification earned.
  • 1999: International certification of Noise Assessment for construction equipment earned.
  • 2000: “MEGA-V” loader series launched.
  • 2004: $500 million in exports reached.

Doosan® Brands

There are several different brands under the Doosan umbrella to suit different needs, including Bobcat®, Geith, Doosan® Portable Power, Doosan® Industrial Vehicle America Corporation and Doosan® Engine.

  • Bobcat® produced the first skid-steer loader and continues to produce a variety of compact loaders for construction use.
  • Geith manufacturers attachments and hitches for equipment.
  • Doosan® Portable Power created the world’s very first portable air compressor and they also build mobile generators.
  • Doosan® Industrial Vehicle America Corporation builds forklifts and other equipment for handling materials.
  • Doosan® Engine produced South Korea’s first diesel engine. Today, the division produces both diesel and gasoline engines.
